Did You Have Free Time Before You Had A Computer?

By Zach Jacobs

Can you still remember what your life was life before you had a computer? Although it seems like computers have been around forever, they are relatively new and a large portion of the population has lived in a time when there was no pcs. However, there are some people alive today who use a computer and who have never known a time without a computer. There are even some alive who have lived far more years before the advent of the computer than they will ever live after it

While the upcoming generation will have never lived in a time when Twitter, Facebook, Ebay and Google did not exist, there has been just such a time in history. There was also a time in history that a microwave and computers did not exist too.

There was a time when people used a typewriter instead of their computer to get work done. Ah, typewriters; who remembers white out? That was a different time of life, wasn't it? This was also a time when far more mothers were able to be stay at home moms.

Computers are a part of everyday life now and it is hard to imagine going back to a time before them. However, many could argue that while they have made it possible to get far more done in a shorter amount of time, that if mismanaged, they can also complicate life further.

The amount of time that we spend on a computer when we do not have to be tells a lot about our self control. While it may seem easy to turn off the computer, it is not necessarily that easy. Our PCs can be used to access and overwhelming amount of information that can help us to learn a lot. While this is not a bad thing on the surface, it can be a huge time consumer during times that we should be doing other things. If this happened to us, then we should reevaluate.

Kept within control though, computers can make our life a lot easier and more productive than ever before. From researching to writing to managing information, a pc can be a huge time and paper saver. It can also be a great way to share and stay connected with friends, family and others.

By making a few rules, you can learn to take control of your time again rather than the computer controlling you. One rule that I use is to place the computer and the things that I want or need to do on the computer in a prioritized list with all of the other things that I need to do. Another rule is to set a limit on how much free time I use the computer for.

It is important to take strong control with our computer time so that we can make them work for us. Pcs are constantly changing and that makes it easier for us to be connected to them non-stop. With some control, we can make sure that they are used to save us time rather than take up more time in our lives. - 30431
